Charleston Rated No. 1 City in the U.S. and Here’s Why

downtown CharlestonOnce again Charleston made headlines this week as the No. 1 city in the United States. Conde Nast Traveler readers for the fourth year in a row put the Holy City tops on the list. The magazine also announced its readers voted Charleston the No. 2 city in the world. Yes, the entire world. We were just slightly edged out by Florence, Italy (we’re coming for you next year, Florence!).

For those who live in this glorious Southern city and for those who have visited this spectacular city, this announcement came as no surprise. We know Charleston is amazing. It’s why so many people live here. It’s why people move here on a daily basis. And it’s why tourists flock here at all times of the year. Let’s face it, Charleston has it all.

We could go on and on about all the things that make Charleston such a terrific U.S. city but here are three we feel certain Conde Nast Traveler readers have found most alluring.

  1. The views. Head to downtown Charleston, stop on the sidewalk and look around. You’re surrounded by beauty in every direction. Whether you’re looking at the Charleston harbor, Rainbow Row, a cobblestone alleyway or a streetscape filled with boutiques and art galleries, you’re falling in love with Charleston.
  2. The food. You can build an entire vacation around Charleston’s incredible restaurants. We boost some of the best chefs and restaurants in the country. And the seafood is pretty darn fresh too.
  3. The culture. Charleston is the best of Southern charm and cosmopolitan chic. We have plenty of history mixed with the arts and a city full of folks ready to help you make the most of your visit.

We’d love to know what you think makes Charleston so special! What makes the city No. 1 in your book?
