Take a Craft Beer Cruise on the Charleston Harbor

craft beerCharleston’s craft beer scene has moved to a whole new level. Local breweries are popping up on a regular basis, creating specialty brews and tasting experiences. While our city has some incredible breweries, it’s also fun to see what’s happening on the national craft beer scene.

Join Charleston Harbor Tours to experience Oskar Blues Brewery on a Craft Beer Cruise aboard The Carolina Queen – Charleston’s only authentic paddlewheel riverboat. The cruise is 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 26. Tickets are just $20 each.

In 1997, Oskar Blues Grill & Brew Restaurant opened in Lyons, Colo. The following year, Oskar Blues brewed its first batch of beer in the basement of the restaurant. Shortly after, Oskar Blues took home a bronze medal at the Great American Beer Festival. In 2002, Oskar Blues became the first U.S. craft brewer to can its own beer – the flagship Dale’s Pale Ale. The brewery has continued to grow, producing additional brews and adding new restaurants in Colorado. It also has a brewery location in North Carolina.

Beer from Oskar Blues Brewery and food from Roti Rolls will be available for purchase on the June 26 cruise.

Then on July 4, combine a fireworks show and drinks from Lagunitas Brewery on a second Craft Beer Cruise this summer. The cruise is 8:30-10:30 p.m. and tickets are $30 each. Lagunitas has breweries in Petaluma, Calif., and Chicago. Brew lovers can enjoy a variety of IPAs, pale ales, a dark stout and some limited editions from Lagunitas. Their beers are brewed in an old world tradition using only water, hops, yeast and malted barley.

Performing live on both cruises is local band Weigh Station – a blend of funk rock and dirty Southern soul. Since their start in April 2006, the members of Weigh Station have become a strong, dynamic and creative force in the Charleston music scene. They have headlined some of Charleston’s most popular music venues, such as the Music Farm and the Pour House, while playing across the Carolinas at private parties, weddings, clubs and bars.
