As arguably the most beautiful city in the country, Charleston is renowned for its historical architecture, Southern charm, and breathtaking harbor. And let’s face it, when there’s so many beautiful settings in one city, it can be hard to choose where you want your wedding day photographs taken!
To help you decide where you’ll have your wedding pictures taken, we’ve narrowed down a few of our favorite settings in Charleston harbor for a photo shoot.
See below for our selection:
The Aquarium Wharf: Boasting one of the most iconic backdrops in Charleston, a visit to the Aquarium Wharf for post wedding photographs is an absolute must. As you look out onto Charleston harbor from the Aquarium Wharf, you’ll have a picturesque view of the profound Ravenel Bridge, prominent USS Yorktown, and, of course, the reflective waters of the harbor.
This is the PERFECT spot for an evening photo shoot when the bridge is lit up—not to mention, nothing says Charleston quite like a photograph with the Ravenel Bridge involved!
AND, if you can get here JUST as the sun begins to set, you are in for a real treat. Charleston is famous for some of the most colorful and vibrant sunsets in the country!
Patriot’s Point: A wedding photography shoot at Patriot’s Point is definitely unique to the Charleston area. Where else can you capture history, marine wildlife, and the Holy City horizon in one shot?
Here are some suggested photograph settings in the Patriot’s Point area:
• A shot on the grass of the USS Yorktown and Ravenel Bridge in the backdrop
• Pictures on the pristine Patriot’s Point Golf Course with the harbor in the background
• Take a 30-minute helicopter flight above the harbor and have your picture taken (you can also get some fantastic birds-eye-view shots of Charleston below).
• The Patriot’s Point Pier is another fabulous location for a photo shoot and is perfect for daytime shooting. You might even get some pelicans and harbor birds in the backdrop!
Downtown Charleston Pier: With swinging benches, beautiful marine birdlife, quaint Italian Ice Stands, cobblestone alleys and walkways, and beautifully manicured greens, the downtown Charleston Pier area provides an enchanting ambiance for a romantic photo shoot during the day. There’s even the lovely and iconic Pineapple Fountain, which makes for a fantastic backdrop to any photograph.
The Battery: As one of Charleston’s most historical and charming landmarks, the Battery in downtown Charleston boasts spectacular views of the harbor, speckled with sailboats and ships, breathtaking estates, and colorful architecture. The lighting here is also wonderful, making a photo shoot ideal during any time of the day and late afternoon.
The Mount Pleasant Waterfront Park: At the base of the Ravenel Bridge in Mount Pleasant is one of the Charleston-area’s most charming waterfront parks. The quaint, manicured gardens, coupled with the bustling fishing pier offers a unique and lively setting for a daytime wedding (or engagement session) photo shoot. There are lots of unique angles that your photographer can work with, which makes this setting one-of-a-kind. One of our favorite angles includes the gardens with a shot of the Ravenel Bridge in the backdrop. There are just lots of fun ways to play around with a photo shoot at the Mount Pleasant Waterfront Park!
This is also a great spot for a nighttime shoot. If you want the photographer to focus solely on the Ravenel Bridge in the backdrop, then a nighttime shoot is ideal, as the bridge is lit up.
