Your wedding day should be picture perfect in every way! Beautiful and historic from both land and sea, Charleston, known as the “Holy City,” remains the premier wedding destination in the country. Loaded with a wide range of restaurants, hotels, venues, and of course photography, it is no wonder why Charleston has been a consistently named as one of the top US-based wedding destinations for decades! Charleston offers a unique and desirable destination for you and your guests because of the variety of interests it provides. There is truly something for everyone (not to mention it’s one of the most historic cities in America)!
The Holy City offers a very wide range of accommodations within everyone’s budget. Aside from a huge variety of well-known hotel names that range from inexpensive to expensive, there are other options to choose from such as local hotels, bed & breakfasts, historic inns, beachfront home rentals, and more. Even if your accommodations are not right on the water, no one is too far from the beautiful beaches and harbors where pelicans and dolphins are frequent visitors.
There are a wide variety of restaurants in Charleston to suite everyone’s taste. Whether you choose to dine in historic downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, Daniel Island, or Isle of Palms, you will surely enjoy some wonderful dining. Why not also try some local cuisine when you are here such as Gullah cuisine (which is a special culture of African-American living in the Lowcountry of South Carolina and Georgia)? And enjoy fresh shrimp brought in daily from the local shrimp boats, fresh local oysters, and other local fish.
Why choose a wedding, rehearsal dinner, reception or all three in Charleston Harbor? Simple. What can be more romantic than being on the water with your family and friends, under the stars, in celebration of one of the most important days of your life!
Charleston Harbor itself is one of the oldest and most important harbors in the south, having been the gateway for European trade, well before the Civil War. Fort Sumter, where the first shot was fired, igniting the start of the American Civil War, is situated on a small island in the harbor, and is one of the most viewed sites in Charleston. Just a mile or so away sits Fort Johnson, from where that first shot was fired. It is hard not to feel a sense of pride and patriotism when you view another historic site in the harbor, which is the Aircraft Carrier Yorktown, docked at Patriot’s Point, just past the Ravenel Bridge. Aboard, many vintage warplanes can be viewed, both above deck and below, along with a wonderful World War II museum dedicated to our heroes, past and present.
Charleston Harbor Tours has been hosting cruises in the harbor since 1908, making them an expert in both your celebration and the details that go with it. Your family and friends will not only be sharing your beautiful day, but they will also be enjoying a cruise. If some of your out-of-town guests do not have a lot of time to spend in Charleston, this would be a great way to both celebrate your wedding and see some of Charleston’s world-renowned harbor while dancing the night away! It is up to you. You choose where and when you want to cruise. The boat is yours.
